Four new School Streets launch in the borough
Enfield Council is excited to announce that we have launched four new School Streets across the borough at Latymer All Saints Primary, Chesterfield Primary, Prince of Wales Primary and Bowes Primary. A ‘School Street’ is an area transformed into a walking and cycling zone outside of a school. They operate from Monday to Friday during the school term only at set times for drop-off (morning) and pick-up (afternoon). School Streets create safer environments around schools for children and the community. Read the full story on the Journeys and Places website.

Guidance for planning outdoor community events
Outdoor community events are a great way to connect with your local neighbourhood and the people within it. Whether it’s a street party, winter market or public workshop, community events are not complicated to organise, with a little bit of advance planning. The “Guidance for Planning Outdoor Community Events in Enfield’s Public Spaces” provides support to local community groups which do not have any previous experience in organising small events, helping them to navigate the application process and making sure they are aware of and comply to a series of basic health and safety measures.

TfL Cycle Sundays – leisurely bike routes for the weekend
TfL’s new active travel initiative is intended to create a ‘social movement’ for cycling which helps Londoners associate Sundays with going out for a cycle on quieter paths and roads. It targets all non-cyclists and lapsed cyclists in London who are open to cycling, to give cycling a go. TfL Cycle Sundays provides them with the tools to get cycling including a choice of leisurely cycle routes suitable for beginners, free cycle training, safety tips, offers and cycling discounts. TfL is offering a Santander Cycles Day Pass’ unlimited 30-minute cycle rides every Sunday from 3 to 30 June.
Two new parklets installed on Ashfield Parade, Southgate
Two new parklets in Ashfield Parade have been delivered through the Council’s Journeys and Places programme as part of a series of integrated interventions we are delivering in the Southgate Town Centre throughout 2024. The parklets were designed following consultation with local residents and businesses, and the artwork was co-designed with local, young people. The parklets will improve key walking routes and enhance the public realm using greenery and public art to transform the Town Centre. These interventions are the first step in the development of a new longer-term vision for Southgate. Visit the parklets and let us know what you think via the Southgate Town Centre project page.
