Brighter future with Next Steps event for young people

Hundreds of young people in Enfield took a major step to towards building their future careers at the third annual Next Steps event, held on 5 February 2025 at the Green Towers Community Centre.

Organised by Enfield Council, this dynamic project aims to inform 16-year-olds about all the post-16 options available. The Council aims to give young people clear guidance on their education and training opportunities so they can build a brighter future.

100 Year 10 and 11 students from four secondary schools and one youth club in Enfield were welcomed on the day by Cllr Abdul Abdullahi, the Cabinet Member of Children’s Services. The invitees were given time to network and benefit from this event, including a masterclass on “How to ace your application form” by Matrix SCM.

From workshops on construction and entrepreneurship to career speed networking activity, students had the opportunity to engage with professionals from organisations such as Enfield Council, Glenman Corporation, Liberty Mutual, Northside Youth and Community Connexions, Tottenham Hotspur and Warburtons.

The learning providers present were Barnet and Southgate College, Capital City College and First Rung, and they provided advice and information about their courses.

Cllr Abdul Abdullahi, said: “Further education and training can act as a stepping stone to help create a better future. This is why we created Next Steps. We want to encourage and raise awareness amongst young people, especially 16-year-olds on all the pathways that are available to them and their needs. I strongly encourage young people to be curious, visualise their dream and embrace all the opportunities that education and training offer.”
