As in every year, the “Children with Leukemia Week,” organized under the leadership of LÖSEV (The Foundation for Children with Leukemia) between November 2–8, aims to raise public awareness about leukemia — the most common type of childhood cancer — and to draw attention to this important health issue. Recognized by the Turkish Ministry of National Education as one of the “Special Weeks and Days,” this meaningful week invites the participation and support of all institutions, organizations, schools, universities, and the public.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the week, and special events will be held between October 15 and November 15 across Turkey. Founded on November 8, 1998, LÖSEV dedicated the “Children with Leukemia Week” to children with leukemia and their families. Every year, through a series of events, LÖSEV aims to raise social awareness about leukemia, emphasize that leukemia is a treatable disease, and support children and families who are bravely fighting it. To highlight its message, “We Don’t Want to Have Leukemia!”, LÖSEV will launch an Orange Awareness Movement, adopting orange—the symbolic color of leukemia—as a unifying theme. Throughout the week, awareness programs will be conducted to inform students about the symptoms, treatment methods, and preventability of leukemia.
Local offices, volunteers, and healthcare professionals will hold seminars to inform the public. Events supported by both public and private institutions aim to provide morale and emotional support to children battling leukemia.
Turkey Will Turn Orange
With the slogan “Where There is Hope, There is Healing,” LÖSEV is calling on everyone across Turkey to “turn the country orange.” You can join this movement and show your support for children with leukemia by wearing orange clothing and accessories, and by creating orange-themed corners in schools, institutions, and workplaces.
Many socially responsible brands and organizations have already announced their participation by decorating store displays, dressing mannequins, and encouraging employees to wear orange accessories throughout the week. Supporters are also invited to share their photos on social media with the hashtags #UmudunAdıLÖSEV and @losev1998.
Standing by children with leukemia and their families during their challenging journeys is of great importance — both financially and emotionally. Since its establishment in 1998, LÖSEV has been providing medical treatment, education, and psychosocial support to children with leukemia, standing beside them in their fight.
LÖSEV’s message during this meaningful week is clear: Leukemia is treatable and preventable. We don’t want to have leukemia. LÖSEV invites everyone across Turkey to stand with children fighting leukemia and support them in their recovery process.
