North Cyprus’ first ever football documentary has arrived on Amazon Prime Videoand Apple TV.
OFFSIDE: The Untold Story of Sports in the TRNC is the story of Turkish Cypriots who have been shut out of international sport for decades, not through any lack of talent or will, but through politics. It is a story of resilience, of identity, and of a people who have refused to be made invisible. Now, for the first time, that story is available to the world.
Filmed during the 2025 TRNC Cup Final, the documentary captures the heart of Turkish Cypriot football as Lefke Türk Spor Kulübü defeated six consecutive league champions Mağusa Türk Gücü 3-1. It brings together some of the most significant voices on the island.
The film features Ersin Tatar (Fifth President of the TRNC), Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğrułoğlu, KTFF President Hasan Sertoğlu, KTFF Women’s Football Coordinator Simay Kanan, former international striker Billy Mehmet, ex-Galatasaray midfielder Barış Özbek, Doğan Türk Birliği President Bayar Piskobulu, Lefke manager at the time Hasan Topaloğlu, players Kaan Savaşkan and Christopher Fourmy, and sports journalist Necmi Usal.
The film was presented and written by Mert Ahmet, directed by Afzal Choudhury, and produced by Eren Ramadan, with distribution by My Spotlight Independent. OFFSIDE was supported by the Freedom and Fairness for Northern Cyprus Campaign, who supported the project at every stage and helped give Turkish Cypriot athletes a platform they have long been denied.
“Having OFFSIDE on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV is a moment I will never forget. We set out to bring this story to an international audience, and now it's got a seat on two of the biggest platforms in the world. This is for every Turkish Cypriot athlete who has long been denied the opportunity to compete on the international stage.” – Mert Ahmet
